New Year, Same Old Epicness

After months having fun and relaxing on our awesome cloud, we decided it was time to bring this epic blog back! I'm sure everyone's as excited as we are, so here we go!

Maria Sharapova was one of our regulars in 2009, so she wanted to remind us of how epic she can be, starting the year with a bang just to make it to the blog! We are so proud of you, Maria! Even her amazing dress wasn't powerful enough to give her a win... But don't worry, because you're getting the 'Hoops and Yoyo Curtain FAIL Award'! The match was a typically short WTA match, indeed it was so short that we are disappointed it wasn't scheduled before Andy's match.

Another epic match from Monday was between Stepanek and Karlovic. Two really handsome men on court, we couldn't have asked for more! Obviously they deserve to be here in our blog and get the 'Hoops and Yoyo Ultimate Hot Match Award'! Just to be clear, we don't want to shock our readers with too much hotness, that's why we are not including any pics from this fantastic match!

There are a few players who deserve to be mentioned but weren't epic enough to win a prestigous H&Y award, like Gulbis, Moyá, Bobby Ginepri, Querrey, Ferrero and Chardy.

One of tuesday's epic results was Boredo's amazing loss to Giraldo in three easy sets. We are very impressed, because the only people who usually lose to Giraldo are brasilians. To make sure he got an award today, he lost in straight sets! Hoops and Yoyo are really really pleased to give him the amazing 'Hoops and Yoyo Brasilian Pride Award'! Congrats, Tommy boy!

Soderling knew he made it to our blog last year when he played Rafa, but back then he didn't win the award. He was so jealous he promised himself he'd be a good boy and try hard to win one in 2010. He didn't want to waste time so he took his first opportunity, losing to Granollers in five sets! That's what we call dedication! Therefore, Sod is getting the 'Hoops and Yoyo True Dedication Award'! We hope you appreciate it!

Andreev also wanted to be mentioned here... Since beating Fed would be too much to ask, he found a way to take a set off him and hope for an award. We heard he also had some set points to win the third set... Maybe he got too excited at the time thinking of how amazing it'd be to make it to the blog! Poor thing! But don't worry, you are getting the famous 'Hoops and Yoyo Epic Choke Award' (the first of 2010!).

We all know Young is such a great player, right? Anyway, while he was playing last night, a ballkid was so impressed with his tennis skills that apparently he was peeing on his pants. Only the greatest can make people have truly amazing reactions! That's why Young is getting the 'Hoops and Yoyo Too Good to Handle Award'!

Hoops and Yoyo were really impressed with the Youzhny/Gasquet match! Gasquet is a really good person, he wasted 2 match points in the fourth set and ended up losing the match in the fifth set just to make it to the blog. He was also jealous because Andy won this same award back in 2007 at Wimbledon (wasting a 2-0 lead). Who cares about winning a grand slam match when you can make it to the most amazing blog on the internet and even getting awards, right? Just because dear Paulo isn't around, we are giving Richard the 'Hoops and Yoyo Everyday Choker Award'!

That's it for today! We'll be back tomorrow with epic results, epic pictures, epic everything!

We're baaaaaaaaaaack...

...or we will be. (: We would like to apologize for the last few days but after the epic two weeks in Paris Hoops and Yoyo needed rest and had to prepare for the hopefully even more epic next GS - Wimbledon. Just like we did during Roland Garros we will bring you every epic result, detail, JACKET etc from London. So get ready for the Epicness! Hoops and Yoyo will be watching!

Doubles Doubles the epicness!

Since Hoops and Yoyo have been talking a lot about singles matches recently, we thought it would be fun to take a look at the doubles results today, since there was a really epic one.

Dear Bob and Mike found a really epic way to lose their semifinal match against Moodie and Norman. That reminds us of Andy's amazing match against Troicki last year. That being said, this match deserves two awards: Moodie and Norman get "The Hoops & Yoyo's Epic Bagel Award" and Bob&Mike get "The Hoops & Yoyo's Epic Choke Award". Congrats guys, the 4 of you are just amazing!!!

Though Bob wasn't satisfied with only one award. We understand, the more the best. So he fought hard to get the mixed doubles title and hope we are both in a good mood to give him another award... So, here you go, Bobby! You get "The Hoops & Yoyo's At Least I Won Something Award"!

Hope to see you guys tomorrow with more epic stuff! Off to the cloud!

A less eventful day

Wednesday was a bit less epic than the other days especially in Paris.

We have only one H&Y tennis award today and it goes to Serena and Sveta. We think it's very rare to watch a WTA match with more than 15 games, and they made it to 37. And although 37 ain't as cool as 257, we can still give them "The Hoops And Yoyo Epic Fighting Spirit Award". Sveta won the match but Serena was really happy too because she finally won a H&Y award. Well done!

We also found a really epic video yesterday. Starring our fav band EVER, the JB. We must say that we're pretty disappointed to see that the Hoops and Yoyo dancing lessons didn't help the guy in the video and those heels aren't helping either. You can watch the epic video here. Maybe next time you'll put on a better performance. We can't wait until your new album!

Tuesday's Bagel Fest

Hoops and Yoyo are extremely proud of two players today. Not only because they can play awesome tennis, but because they can provide us really epic stuff to write about.

We are very disappointed to tell you our all-time favorite Muscles lost his quarterfinal match against Gonzo. We really wanted him to win RG to prove to the whole world a british hero could win a huge title on clay... But instead he figured winning a Hoops & Yoyo award meant more to him than a GS title. Well, yeah, in some ways. That's why Muscles gets the so loved "Hoops and Yoyo Epic Bagel Award". See you on clay next year, dear Andy!

On the other hand, Maria Sharapova had a few epic matches at this RG, but we msut confess they weren't enough for her to get a Hoops & Yoyo award. So she made a really impressive effort to get the most important Hoops and Yoyo award of all: the Double Bagel Award. She got close. Really close. Fine. Since nothing really epic-exciting happened apart from the 2 Ms, I guess we can give her "The Hoops and Yoyo Epic Bagel and a Half Award". Congrats, Maria!

We're now back to our cloud...

It's Just Another Manic Monday

Monday at the Roland Garros brought us even more epicness.

After Tommy Haas won the first two sets he realized that winning a H&Y award means much more to him than beating Roger so he lost the next three sets in a spectacular way. That's why we give Tommy "The Hoops And Yoyo Epic Choke Award". But that's not the only award Tommy gets for his performance. For the fourth set he won "The Hoops And Yoyo Epic Bagel Award", too! Congrats, Tommy! We are proud of you!

The third match on Court Lenglen was one of our all-time favorites. Jelena Jankovic aka the Master of short matches tried really hard to
  • win an award
  • get on our nerves.
She was successful! Today she gets the SHARED "Hoops And Yoyo Epic Bagel Award". We also wanted to give her "The Hoops And Yoyo Longest WTA Match Ever Award" but the third set wasn't 257-255 so we won't give it to her this time. Maybe next time when you play before Andy! Keep up the good work, Jelena!

When Jelena was finally beaten after almost three hours Roddick finally started his match against Monfils. Andy lost the first set easily after masterfully executing the very same game plan which Larry described in every article (aka being aggressive). Then during the second set he started complaining that it's too dark to play. But bradgilbertly they didn't stop the match in France against a FrAnch player. He lost the second set even more easily - game plan still excellent. He was fighting in the third but after he showed everyone that "there are clouds in the sky" he finally gave up and lost. Andy gets "The Hoops And Yoyo I Can't See The Ball Award". We must mention that although Monfils was very very nice during the match but the handshake was really bittersweet because Monfils also wanted to win an award. Stay as nice as you already are, Gael and maybe one day we will be able to give you an award!

Back on Sunday Mr and Mrs Roddick showed us on Twitter how they couldn't find a laundry in France so they had to wash Andy's clothes in their hotel room. We are really proud of Brooklyn teaching Andy how to do these things but it didn't really bring him luck against Monfils. We suggest to find a laundry next time on Saturday. We still give Andy and Brooklyn "The Hoops And Yoyo's Favorite Epic Twitter Couple Award".

Finally we must share the trailer of the movie EVEN Hoops and Yoyo can't wait to see. Click here to watch it.

That was Monday we are now off to the cloud...

One of the Most Epic Sundays of All Time

We have no words to describe how epic Sunday was. You know it is a rare moment when Hoops and Yoyo can't find the right words to describe something. So here we go!

We expected Ana Ivanovic to lose, though we must include her in today's post because we want to show you, dear fans, how special Sunday was for Roland Garros' defending champions. Just because we're in a really good mood today, Ivanovic will get "The Hoops and Yoyo Always Worth a Laugh Award". Well done, Ana!!

Men's defending champion Rafa Nadal also said goodbye to RG. All we can say is that it was an epic match, and that Rafa was upset he didn't get the Bagel award. He shouldn't be sad though, because he is getting "The Hoops and Yoyo's Ultimate Epic Award"!!

Nando Verdasco was really shocked when he found out during his match that his BFF Rafa Nadal lost to Soderling. Like a great friend he is, he decided it was time for him to lose as well, so they could both use each other's shoulders to cry on and wait for next year's RG. On a sad note, he forgot to shave, and we do hope that is fixed soon, so we decided to give him "The Hoops and Yoyo Epic Gillette Award". Congrats, Nando!

Even though Roger didn't play on Sunday, we found a really interesting picture of him, so we must share!! We aren't sure if he stole it from Serena (because it matches her outfit) or Mirka, but we saw Mirka screaming looking for it... So it is probably hers! That means he's getting "The Hoops and Yoyo Epic Fashion Award". Interesting taste, Roger!

We scheduled an interview with Rafa Nadal on Saturday, a day before his match against Soderling. But due to our really busy schedule, we asked TTC to interview him for us and ask him some really interesting questions, and they did it for us! Hope you guys like the Quick Q&A with Hoops & Yoyo!

H&Y: How did you feel after your loss to Roger some weeks ago?
R: He won because he played better than me, no? I can congratulate him, no? i enjoy lot the tough matches, no?

H&Y: Yes, Rafa, you're a very good player! When you were a kid and you thought about Roland Garros did you ever in your wildest dreams think you would come here and in 4 years and never lose a match?
R: Thanks you, you very good persons too! Well i gotta lose, no?

H&Y: What do you think it is about you and your game that has allowed you to have such success here?
R: I don't know, no? I practice all my life on clay too, no?

H&Y: What are the things when you're playing that you enjoy doing?
R: Well, when I am playing well, I always enjoy, no? I enjoy lot the tough matches, no? 5th set or something like this, it's always special and I love these moments, no?

H&Y: What do you have to say about your friend Nando Verdasco? We know you guys are really close friends.
R: We very good friends, no? I played against Verdasco in Madrid and Rome, I did well, I won, so I just have to put my rhythm on court, no?

H&Y: What are your goals for this year, Rafa?
R: I am #1 but I focus on improve because the other players can catch me up.

H&Y: Thanks for the interview, Rafa! And thanks TTC for helping us out! Really appreciated!

We are happy to present "The Hoops and Yoyo's Are You Kidding Me? Award", that goes to Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's epic kiss fail at the MTV Movie Awards. Congrats, guys! Though let us say Kristen thought only one H&Y award wasn't enough for her, so she fought for the second one in one night, and obviously she did it! After winning the award for best female performance, Kristen stayed true to herself and her character in the Twlight saga movies and after thanking everyone for the award she dropped her trophy. Truly epic! That deserves "The Hoops and Yoyo's Epic Bella Moment Award"!

We think that is more than enough for a Sunday, so we are finally off to the cloud...

Weekends mean Epicness at its highest level

... and it wasn't any different today! This time we bring you more epicness from the world of tennis plus epic news about our favorite on/off celebrity (ex) couple!

The tennis players started slowly but the epictrain arrived to court 1 by the time of the Djokovic/Kohlschreiber match. Falcon's smart gameplan aka playing to Kohli's backhand eventually paid off and our favorite bird lost in straights. He played better in the third set but when he realized that he wasn't going to win he started hitting to that backhand again to make sure he'd get not only one but TWO awards for one match! This is the reason why we give him not only the "Hoops and Yoyo Epic Bird Of The Day Award" but also the "Hoops and Yoyo Smart Gameplan Award" too! Novak told the reporters that he was really happy to get these awardS and they mean more than a RG title.

It was such an epic achievement that even Muscles is jealous.

Our next epic award was earned on Chatrier where Mathieu played Roger. The FrAnch won the first set and although only the really epic chokes are good enough to get an award Paulo is such a regular in that category that we generously give him the "Hoops And Yoyo Everyday Choker Award". Maybe one day we will be able to give him the daily "Hoops and Yoyo Epic Choke Award", too. Keep it up, Paulo!

The next special award goes to the winner of this match, who when changing his shirt showed us his exceptional body. This earned him "The Hoops and Yoyo Epic Body Of The Day Award".

We always expect the unexpected but there are things in the world that even Hoops and Yoyo can't believe. Like Andy Roddick reaching the second week of the Roland Garros. We think he deserves an award for this so we give him "The Hoops And Yoyo Too Good To Be True Award". Keep it up, Andy!
We must announce that although we have manies tennis awards we can't give them to everyone. This player really wanted to win one - especially after we honored her sister yesterday - but we are out of tennis awards for today plus she won (she even showed us how she would hug the trophy). Keep trying, Serena! Never give up the hope!

So now, next epicness has nothing to do with the epic tennis world. The "Hoops and Yoyo Epic Gossip" award goes to Hoops' husband Johnny Mayer and his ex girlfriend Jennifer Aniston, for still making it to gossip sites even though the whole world knows she was just supposed to be a cover. Poor you, Jenny!

Finally we would like to say a big THANKS YOU to our two followers and the visitors from all over the world for reading our blog! We appreciate it!

Tennis' Epic World

The epicness started early in the day, with Szavay bageling Venus Williams! Obviously, Venus deserves "The Hoops & Yoyo Bagel Party Award"!

The picture was taken when Venus realized she won the award she was looking for (obviously that was the reason why she was smiling at net)! In her post-match interview she said it was one of her career's main goals to get such an important award. We're glad you fought hard for it, Venus! Looking forward to the day you finally get "The Hoops & Yoyo Epic Double Bagel Award"!

And "The Hoops & Yoyo Epic Choke Award" goes to Tipsarevic for serving three times for the set against Muscles, not closing it out and retiring after the 2nd set! Well deserved one, Janko!

Due to Hoops & Yoyo's busy schedule, we had to ask Muscles to give Tipsy's trophy for us. Like a nice guy he is, Muscles loved the idea, and we even got a picture from that lovely moment! Thanks a lot, Andy!

We would like to congratulate both awards' winners and say we hope there will be more epic ones tomorrow!

Alright, we are now off to the cloud...
